Reference checking and vetting

Our Security teams are the heart of our airport operation. That’s why our reference checking and vetting process is so in-depth. We invest a lot of time and effort into recruiting the very best people for the job in order to keep our airport safe – and we really appreciate all the time and effort you invest into making that possible along the way.

You must:

Request your 5-year employment history directly from HMRC

This document will be needed as part of the referencing process post offer and will also assist you in completing the online Referencing form. It can take 40 days to arrive and only you can request it. Contact HMRC either by phone, 0300 200 3300, or HMRC website https://www.gov.uk/get-proof-employment-history to download and complete the application form and send it to HMRC (the address is on the form).

Complete our online Referencing and Vetting Form

It can take up to 15 weeks for us to conduct the following;

Contact all your referees

Ask you to apply for a Counter Terrorism Check

Start Criminal Records Check

Ask you to take an online security awareness training course

Verify all documents and references

Confirm your start date, terminal and shift patterns.

If there are any problems with your references or any inaccuracies in your employment or travel history, this could extend the background check process beyond 15 weeks. That will mean moving your starting date or – if we can’t get all the details we require – cancelling your employment offer, so please make sure you’re thorough and provide all information requested.
